Fractal Lumen S28 RGB AiO Liquid Cooler Review

Fractal’s new Lumen series cooler is their second liquid cooler series, but their first in-house design. We won’t get into the semantics of patent trolling and Intellectual Property defense, but it’s well known that a certain company has a stranglehold on the AiO liquid cooling market in terms of combining a pump and a water block into one device. The Lumen does NOT have a pump integrated into the water block which opens a lot of doors for design choices. Lumen comes in three sizes currently, 240mm and 360mm versions based on 120mm fan spacing, and 280mm for 140mm fan spacing.

Interestingly, the Lumen pump is integrated into the radiator, right in the middle of the cooling fins under where a fan hub will sit. This allows for a different and improved block mounting hardware compared to the previous Celsius family. It also allows a large amount of the water block volume to be dedicated to aesthetics which allows the smoke-colored seemingly opaque top to glow in addressable RGB as you see fit. The top can be rotated in 90-degree increments so that it always faces the correct way in any build. Let’s get hands-on and see how it does!
