A Closer Look
AMD has moved the Ryzen 9 5900X, and the rest of the family to a dark brushed metal finish on the box but otherwise retains the same style as previous generations.
The boxes are quite a bit thinner at the Ryzen ‘9’ level of SKU generation since they do NOT come with a cooler. End-users of the higher end offerings often use more advanced coolers, so AMD doesn’t bother with something that’ll just occupy a shelf anyway.
AMD still ships its processors in the same clamshell, but this flavor is a bit wider than normal to better stay in place in the retail packaging.
The Ryzen 9 5900X looks like pretty much any other Ryzen processor in the last few generations. The model is across the top edge.
The rear of the chip matches up to AMD’s AM4 socket and there isn’t much to see here on the business end.
